Welcome to the latest installment of The Dailey Weekly. Each week Will talks with pop culture writer Al Norton about what ever crosses his mind, from sound waves to wave waves to space space waves to baseball waves to how he chooses with what song to open a show.
Al: I just finished listening to Aaron Neville’s fantastic cover of Crazy Love (which features Robbie Robertson on guitar and comes from the Phenomenon soundtrack), and between that and Valentine’s Day it got me wondering…what are some of your favorite love songs? And no, I didn’t ask you this as a way for you to plug your Valentine’s Night gig at Harper’s Ferry in Boston.
Will: Ah yes, V-Day. This Saturday myself and my band are going to wear all black. Just to really stick it to the color red. I can’t think of all of my favorite love songs right now but I will say the Van Morrison has a vault of amazing love songs. Neil Young is never lacking a great love song: “Harvest Moonâ€, “Razor Loveâ€, “Love is a Roseâ€, “Lotta Love†(which a lotta people don’t know he wrote) and even “Act of Loveâ€. I am going to think of a million as soon as I stop typing….
Al: What did you think of the Christian Bale freak out? Did you hear the techno mix version someone came up with? I’ve heard some say it could be a career killer but it seems to me that it was less than two years ago that we all heard Alec Baldwin call his DAUGHTER a “rude little pig” and he just won an Emmy and a Golden Globe.
Will: Ok, so when you sent me this question it was the 3rd or 4th time I’ve heard of this without hearing it. So I just checked it out. And I have to agree with Batman. The guy was way in the wrong. AL: But don’t you think… Will: No, AL! Let me finish! I don’t jump into the middle of your answers do I?!… Let me finish. If you walked into the studio in the middle of a vocal take I would rip your head off! I have gone through 7 drummers simply because they interrupt me during dinner. So I can totally understand where Christian Bale is coming from and I can’t wait for Terminator: Final Judgment Day Again 4.
